This is the official examination to earn the Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) credential. Registration for this exam does not include access the CPE Review Course. Candidates who apply to take this exam acknowledge that this registration represents a self-study examination program.

To earn the Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) credential, a candidate must achieve a passing score on the CPE Exam. The CPE Exam is offered four times each calendar year. To sit for the CPE Exam, a candidate must either: (1) meet the CPE professional experience requirements – i.e. four years of professional experience as a facilities maintenance or project manager plus a bachelor’s degree in facilities management or a related field; (2) six years of professional experience as a facilities maintenance or project manager without a bachelor’s degree; (3) eight years of overall professional experience in a field related to facilities management; or (4) pass the CPE Review Course – i.e. live review course (LRC) or Online Review Course (ORC). The CPE Exam is administered through the Exam Builder portal and does not require a proctor.

Sitting for the CPE Exam involves submitting an application that includes verification of the candidate’s work history. It may take up to ten days to process a candidate’s application. Additionally, all examination fees must be paid before the candidate can receive her or his digital certificate and badge signifying successful attainment of the credential. The examination fee includes the latest edition of the CPE Review Pack.
