A stalwart of the Minneapolis FM Community, the legacy of Fred W. King represents the best in all of us. In leading the proliferation of the Inspec brand, Fred established offices in Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. This widespread base of influence allowed Fred to create opportunities for literally thousands of aspiring engineering and facilities management professionals to enhance their skills and advance their careers. A dedicated Member of AFE, Fred served as a dependable leader of the association both locally and nationally. Fred held several leadership positions on the AFE Board of Directors as well as within AFE Region 3 (Midwestern Region) and as a trusted adviser to the AFE 13 (Twin Cities Chapter) leadership team. Fred continued to be a model of service until his passing.
The AFE Founders Award was developed to recognize the achievements of an AFE Member who embodies the spirit of the very founders of AFE. In 2019, it was decided that no single AFE Member in recent memory reflected the intent behind this award more than Fred King. It followed, naturally, that The AFE Founders Award should be forever renamed for a truly remarkable and giving individual, our very own Mr. Fred W. King. The Fred W. King Award for Lifetime Achievement recognizes the work of an AFE Member who, over the course of her or his lifetime, has not only achieved lofty heights for herself or himself, but who has also created opportunities for others to excel.
The King Award is presented each year during the AFE Founders Day Reception. Visit our event calendar for details on the next AFE Founders Day Conference & Reception .
