AFE Elected Officer Responsibilities
President & Chairman
- The chief elected officer of AFE
- Must hold at least one AFE certification
- Chairs the Board of Directors and the House of Delegates
- Chairs the Annual Business Meeting
- Has full authority to assign duties to committees and to form ad-hoc committees when needed
- Serves as an ex-officio member, with the right to vote on all committees (except Nominating Committee)
- Compiles and gives annual review of Executive Director’s performance
- Shall perform other duties as may be necessary to the office of the Chair of the Board, or as prescribed by the Board of Directors or the Bylaws
President-Elect
- In the scheduled or non-scheduled absence of the President, chairs the Board of Directors, the House of Delegates, and the Annual Business Meetings
- Must hold at least one AFE certification
- In the absence or inability of the current President to perform his/her duties and responsibilities, shall assume the duties of the President
- Chairs the Nominations Committee
- Chairs the Committee of Expertise
- Shall perform other duties as may be necessary to the office of the President or as may be prescribed by the President, Board of Directors, or the Bylaws
Immediate Past President
- Reports on the activities of all Committees at all regularly scheduled meetings of the Board, at the Annual Business Meeting, and at other times as requested by the Board of Directors
- Shall perform other duties as may be necessary to the office or as may be prescribed by the President, Board of Directors, or the Bylaws
Vice Chair, Finance
- Chairs the Strategic Planning Committee
- Develops the annual budget in consultation with the Executive Director to be approved by the Board of Directors
- Ensures proper accounting procedures are maintained by the Executive Director
- Ensures periodical validation of the financial reporting's accuracy
- Assists in the development of long-term financial strategies
- Reports on the financial condition of AFE at all scheduled meetings of the Board of Directors, at the Annual Business Meeting, and at other times when requested by the Board
- Shall perform other duties as may be necessary to the office or as may be prescribed by the Board of Directors or the Bylaws
Vice Chair, Membership
- Chairs the Membership Committee, which shall advise the Board on membership and marketing issues; and develops, strategizes, and drives the implementation of the Annual Plan for the development of membership and member services
- Is responsible for new membership growth
- Is responsible the retention of existing members
- Is responsible for the development of member services
- Reports on the status of membership and member services at regularly scheduled meetings of the Board and at the Annual Business Meeting, and at other times as requested by the Board of Directors
- Shall perform other duties as may be necessary to the office or as may be prescribed by the Board of Directors or the Bylaws
Vice Chair, Professional Development
- Chairs the Professional Development Committee, which advises the Board on virtual and live training, education, development, and certification; and develops, strategizes, and drives the implementation of the Annual Plan for the development of professional development and certification
- Is responsible for the development and implementation of all AFE education and certification programs, including virtual and live training
- Is responsible for the training protocol of all AFE education and certification programs
- Reports on the status of Professional Development at regularly scheduled meetings of the Board and at the Annual Business Meeting, and at other times as requested by the Board of Directors
- Shall perform other duties as may be necessary to the office or as may be prescribed by the Board of Directors or the Bylaws
Academic Fellow
- Is an active or retired member of an educational institution having a Facility Engineering curriculum
- With AFE Global office, maintains list of college-level degree programs in the U.S. and Canada supporting a career in Facilities Engineering/Management
- Actively advances CPE-IT to engineering students
- Assists Professional Development Vice President with academic portion of certifications
- Reviews monthly webinars offering suggested speakers and provides feedback on presentations
- Assists in development of educational content of AFE annual meetings
- Assists in revising AFE educational materials
- Attends/participates in monthly AFE Board of Director meetings and annual meeting, Facilities America
- Shall perform other duties as may be necessary to the office or as may be prescribed by the Board of Directors or the Bylaws
Industry Fellow
- Is an active or retired person having, or having had, a responsible managerial or directorial position in a company, corporation, or institution which serves the Facilities Engineering profession or uses employees having qualifications for AFE membership
- Chairs the Committee of Industries
- Is responsible for the development and implementation of all new industry-related issues positively or negatively impacted in a particular industry
- Reports on the status of the Committee of Industries at regularly scheduled meetings of the Board and at the Annual Business Meeting, and at other times as requested by the Board of Directors
- Shall perform other duties as may be necessary to the office or as may be prescribed by the Board of Directors or the Bylaws
- Reports submitted to the board may include but may not be limited to:
- An industry suffering economically (i.e. coal, steel foundries, etc.)
- An industry affected by new federal or state regulatory (i.e. AIA, ASHRAE, JCAHO, etc.) requirements
- Any industry in need of AFE certification training
- Regional industrial training shortfalls (coordinated with VP of Professional Development and Education Director)
Regional Vice President (RVP)
- Represents his/her region's chapters on the Committee of Representatives (CoR), which consists of the other AFE Vice President-Region leaders throughout AFE
- Maintains an active interface with all chapters and individual members within a respective region
- Is thoroughly familiar with the current bylaws and all AFE operating policies and procedures
- Ensures that each chapter meets its responsibilities (i.e., report/tax form submissions, member retention programs, chapter officer listings, financial reports, meeting minutes, etc.)
- Sees that all chapters have elected their required officers and that a current list is sent to:
- AFE Headquarters
- The Group Director
- Strives to increase membership in the association by establishing new chapters and encouraging the growth of existing chapters. Establishes target areas and goals each year and strives to achieve these goals through the Group Directors
- Assists chapter officers with any communication needs
