1. Check Eligibility
There are two ways in which you can qualify for the CPS (Eligibility Matrix)
- A minimum of 2 years in plant/facility supervisory capacity
- A minimum 3 years in field overall
2. Apply
You can take the CPS exam at either (1) an AFE review program site or (2) at your workplace, using a proctor from your employer’s human resources. If that is not an option, a boss or supervisor may act as your proctor. If you take the exam at your facility you have two options, you can take it in either paper-based or on-line format. Test materials are forwarded to the proctor one day in advance of your exam date. Upon completion of the exam, the proctor will return the materials to the certification department for grading

By covering subjects related to operational leadership in the facilities arena, the Certified Professional Supervisor (CPS) credential provides a gateway for motivated maintenance and engineering professionals to showcase the qualities and expertise that will allow them to ascend into managerial roles. The CPS explores workplace safety, business law, budgeting and conflict resolution as core topics. The entire course, from the materials to the live instruction, is delivered in Spanish.
The skills that supervisors have are essential building blocks for effective leadership. AFE’s Certified Professional Supervisor (CPS) Program was built to develop and strengthen these foundational skills.
